This totally happend to me tonight. I was bug hunting with my boyfriend, his museum supervisor, and some other guy when my boyfriend pointed out this little moth to me.
Me: “OH MY GOD IT’S PINK AND YELLOW AND SO SMALL OH MY GOD IT’S SO CUTE.”
Me: *puts moth on my finger*
Moth: *crawls around, gets settles*
Moth: *waggles head back and forth*
Me: “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. <3”
My boyfriend’s supervisor told me that’s it’s a rosy maple moth. It was really small and crazy fluffy and super tired from flying around (we were at a gas station with lots of lights since insects are attracted to them). He was all like “wow it’s super bright for one, and you could keep it if you want” but I was like “uhm.. No?” Later in the car I had a “I SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT NOOOOO.” moment, but then I realized that this way it might have more time to breed (if it hasn’t already dunno the season for them) and share it’s super pretty gene with all the other rosy maple moths in the area. So now I have a new favorite moth species and something to look out for when I’m out roaming campus at night with my boyfriend to talk and he’s off looking at ant trails and stuff (though we both are really entertained by the cockroaches).
Really though it was so cute.
You have no idea.
I spent the rest of the night calling it the “banana-strawberry moth.”
Really though nature WHY WOULD YOU MAKE SOMETHING SO CUTE.
